  1. Thanks for trying the Internet Control Center.  Please read this 
  2. important information before installing.
  3.  
  4. ICC WILL NOT work properly with some of the 3rd party desktop/
  5. program manager replacements.  No problems have been reported 
  6. with Norton Desktop.  If you have trouble with another shell
  7. try using Program Manager to see if that is the problem.
  8.  
  9. You must have a working winsock program installed on your system.
  10. ICC is tailored especially for Trumpet and Chameleon, but will work 
  11. with any winsock, and has been used with SLIP emulators also.
  12.  
  13. Before installing ICC, it is best to re-start Windows and run the setup
  14. before anything else. This will avoid potential errors with dll's
  15. being in memory from programs you ran recently.  If you do get such
  16. an error as "File In Use"  ignore it, it's harmless.  The setup program
  17. will not copy an older version of any file over a newer one you might 
  18. have already.
  19.  
  20. This program installs easily in the usual way.  Just dbl-click on the
  21. "setup.exe" found in the same directory as this file, using your file
  22. manager.  ICC will be installed in your Program Manager in its own
  23. group. Then of course you can drag it to any group you like.
  24.  
  25. The first time you run the program, the setup screen will appear first.
  26. The setup options are self-explanatory, and if you make a mistake, the
  27. program will tell you so.  To use the "connect-on-startup" option, you
  28. should have your winsock configured to connect automatically when
  29. loaded.  Many popular winsocks can do this.  If you are using Trumpet
  30. Winsock, ICC will set this option automatically after showing you
  31. the settings.  ICC also has an automatic connect/disconnect routine for
  32. Netmanage Chameleon, which does not have it built in as of this release.

  34. TRUMPET USERS:  Before using ICC, make sure that the last time you used
  35. Trumpet, you closed the program from the Trumpet window, and NOT from the
  36. Trumpet icon.  Trumpet has a habit of insisting on starting in 
  37. the same state as it was closed, even if the launching program asks for it
  38. to start as a window.  ICC must open Trumpet as a window, and not as an 
  39. icon, when using the Trumpet option in ICC setup.

  41. Also, set the online status detection in Trumpet setup to NONE.  If
  42. your login script has a DCD check in it, this will usually conflict 
  43. with ICC's online check. You will know this if your login script
  44. stops without completing.
  45.  
  46. The login.cmd shipped with Trumpet contains the line "wait 30 dcd".
  47. or in version 2.1 it reads "wait %onlinetimeout dcd".
  48. THIS LINE MUST BE CHANGED to "sleep 2" for ICC to function correctly.  
  49. The online detection is handled completely by ICC.
  50.  
  51. Finally, set the dialer options in Trumpet to "Automatic Login and
  52. Logout on Demand".
  53.  
  54. Due to the wide variation in Trumpet login scripts, sometimes unforeseen
  55. problems occur.  We have always been able to remedy them.  IF YOUR
  56. LOGIN SCRIPT WILL NOT complete, when emailing the author for help, PLEASE
  57. attach a copy of your login.cmd and trumpwsk.ini., with any passwords 
  58. edited out before mailing.  It is also helpful if you rename the files
  59. to something like myname.ini and myname.cmd.
  60.  
  61. CHAMELEON USERS:  Before using ICC, turn OFF the Carrier Detect in the 
  62. Chameleon setup options.  ICC's detection will conflict with this, and
  63. will not allow your login script to complete properly.  ICC cannot set
  64. this option for you because Netmanage has decided to encrypt all their 
  65. configuration files.
  66.  
  67. *** VERY IMPORTANT ***  
  68. For the online status light, and the connect/disconnect to work properly
  69. your modem must be properly set.  The DCD (Data Carrier Detect) signal
  70. must be set to be active only during connect.  On Hayes-compatible modems
  71. the command to put in your modem string is &C1.  Some modems use this as
  72. the factory default, and some do not. 
  73.  
  74. The other important modem setting is the DTR (Data Terminal Ready) mode.
  75. It should be set to disconnect your modem when the DTR signal goes off.
  76. The command for Hayes-compatible modems is &D2.   Thus to be safe,
  77. just add the string &C1&D2 to whatever modem string you are currently
  78. using.  There should be a setting in your winsock dialer program for the
  79. modem initialization string.

  84. If you would like a really cool sound intro to play when ICC
  85. starts up, download the file wave.zip from our ftp site
  86. and unzip it into the icc directory.  It will play automatically
  87. when ICC is started.  We didn't include it because of the size, 
  88. and some users won't want it.  ICC uses the Windows MCI sound 
  89. driver.
